In 1948, my father was honorably discharged from the Navy. His plans were to go back to Ohio. His buddy, George, discharged at the same time, had other ideas. Go west – to Arizona. It seems there was a manufacturing and technology boom back then and George’s dream was to pool their money, open a business, and make it rich. I’d like to say that’s exactly what my dad did. Or, that his friend – who did go to Arizona – realized his dream. Instead, my dad went to Ohio. His friend opened a small … [Read more...] about Area Poised for More Manufacturing Jobs
Countdown to Acker Night Underway
Prescott's tradition, Acker Night, is December 13th. The family-friendly event features music in the streets of Prescott, with participation from downtown merchants and residents from throughout the Quad Cities. The goal of Acker Night is said to keep music alive for the youth of Prescott; funds raised will help provide scholarships for music lessons and local youth programs related to music. Rebranding of Arizona Shuttle – ShuttleU
As the old saw goes, the more things change, the more they stay the same. That's the message coming out of Arizona Shuttle, whose Prescott-based ShuttleU brand is being retired to make room for new company branding statewide. According to Arizona Shuttle Marketing Director Fred Gould, "What we want to say to our loyal ShuttleU customers is that we're the same well-run company we were last week, last month, or last year. When is the Right Time To Sell Your Home?
The real estate market is settling down after the roller coaster of the past few years, and now the big question often is: “When is the best time to sell my Prescott area home?” Now is as good a time as other times of the year. Why? As the chart below shows (and contrary to what many people think), the real estate market is active all year round in the Prescott area. Highway’s Partnership
Earlier this year, the Prescott/Quad Cities area received some unfortunate news. Fortunately, ADOT is still proceeding with plans to widen the northern segment of Highway 89 from Chino Valley to Deep Well Ranch Road in the spring of 2014; however, failing to expand the … [Read more...] about Highway’s Partnership

We Are Happy Being Below Average
For some folks, being “below average” may be a bit of a downer. Not so for some people who live in the Quad Cities area – Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley and Dewey-Humboldt. That is because being “below average” on the national Cost of Living Index issued by the Arlington, Va.-based Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) revealed that what is known as the Prescott, AZ Metro Urban Area had consistently been below the national base average of 100. And that was true for … [Read more...] about We Are Happy Being Below Average
Understanding the Cost of Living Index
Most of us have a vague idea of what the “Cost of Living Index” (COLI) is – a sort of snapshot of how much it costs to buy different products at different times in different communities. We know, for instance, that it costs substantially more to live in San Francisco or Boston than it does in Sierra Vista or Bullhead City. But what do those “numbers” – those figures that are cited as representing the costs of things in a given area – really mean? And how are they determined? David … [Read more...] about Understanding the Cost of Living Index
