July is “National Lost Pet Prevention Month” and a great time to remind you of a few ways to keep your pets safe and at home! Yavapai Humane Society’s Lost & Found Department can be a very busy place. Depending on the season, especially if there is a holiday or bad weather, they can take in anywhere from five to 10 lost animals per day. In May alone, we were able to reunite 57 animals with their families! The National Humane Society states that a family pet is lost every two seconds in … [Read more...] about Recognizing the Importance of National Lost Pet Prevention Month

Caring for Pets in the Dog (and Cat) Days of Summer
Summer in Arizona is extremely hot, and heat can be a canine killer. As our temperatures rise, we need to take extra precautions to keep our four-legged family members safe. If it’s 77 degrees outside, the temperature of the pavement is 125 degrees and at 87 degrees, the temperature of the pavement is a whopping 143 degrees! An egg can fry at 131 degrees in just five minutes, so just imagine how your dog’s paws feel walking on the hot cement, rocks or even dirt. Before you take your pets … [Read more...] about Caring for Pets in the Dog (and Cat) Days of Summer
Getting Outdoors with Your Dog

Getting proper physical stimulation helps dogs keep their muscles and joints … [Read more...] about Getting Outdoors with Your Dog
Ready For a Walk?
Do you sometimes feel that taking your dog out for a walk is more of a chore than an enjoyment? In all honesty, I can say that, for me, sometimes it does feel that way. Waking up early, piling on warm clothes and boots and having to go out is not my idea of a good time, especially if it’s snowing or raining. The funny thing is that once I get out there and start walking with my girl, I almost immediately have an “attitude adjustment” and start to get a little pep in my step and enjoy my time … [Read more...] about Ready For a Walk?
Acknowledging Unconditional Love
Wouldn’t it be great to not be judged about your job, your home, your car, your looks? Wouldn’t it be great to be greeted at the door with loads of love when you come home? Wouldn’t it be great to have a walking buddy every day or someone to snuggle with on the couch every night? Yes, it would! All of these things and more are possible by adopting a dog! Your dog doesn’t care what you do for a living or what you drive. Your dog doesn’t care if you put makeup on or brush your hair. Your dog … [Read more...] about Acknowledging Unconditional Love
Considering Pet Guardianship and Safety Net Programs
Have you thought about what will happen to your beloved pets should something happen to you? Our pets are family, and just as we make provisions to ensure our children will be taken care of, we should do the same for our pets. Considering the Health Benefits of Pet Ownership
We live in a stressful time. Between our jobs or, perhaps, being out of work, our families, and all the time spent on our computers and social media, it is important that we take time for ourselves! For a lot of us, that involves spending time with our furbabies… instant relaxation for us and for them! For most of us, but especially for our veterans, a dog is sometimes a lifeline. Many soldiers return home with battle scars that are both seen and unseen. Dogs provide companionship, … [Read more...] about Considering the Health Benefits of Pet Ownership
