Exercise might not be everyone’s favorite activity, but adopting a dog can be a game-changer. Finding Your New Best Friend
It was March, 2016. I came home from work and was greeted by my boyfriend (now ex-husband) with a big smile on his face. I knew, something was up, but what? He showed me a picture of the cutest dog; he found her on Yavapai Humane Society’s website. (I didn’t work there at the time.) I told him we already have two cats, and we live in an apartment, and we really aren’t able to take on a dog, but go ahead and go see this little girl tomorrow. (Now, remember, I said “go see” this little girl.) He … [Read more...] about Finding Your New Best Friend

One of the best things about working at Yavapai Humane Society is seeing all the “Happily Ever Afters” we are lucky enough to be a part of every day! There is no greater joy than caring for, getting to know their true personalities, and loving these animals as if they were our own, and then watching them leave us to go to their new forever home with a family that loves them as much as we do. Preparing for a New Home
Browning was a large female German shepherd mix who came to Yavapai Humane Society in May 2023 through Prescott Animal Control as a stray. She was initially defensive and growled at anyone who walked near her kennel in an attempt to scare them away. It seemed as though Browning wanted nothing to do with anyone, but in reality, she was only afraid. Several staff members had mentioned Browning’s attitude problem and had concerns about her defensive behavior. The YHS Canine Behavior Team … [Read more...] about Preparing for a New Home
