The COVID-19 pandemic has had profound effects on commerce, business, health, and access to goods and services. It has had a strong impact on business communities that are closely tied to Northern Arizona University. It is more important than ever for NAU to continue providing students, faculty and staff the opportunity to study, innovate, do research and use its collective creativity to imagine a new way of living. NAU Supporting Businesses, Communities During COVID-19
Outside of the critical work of preparing Northern Arizona University for the return to campus, researchers, faculty and staff have been working hard to find vaccines, improve testing and support stressed communities and local businesses as they live through the various effects of the pandemic. One recent effort to enhance consumer confidence is an NAU partnership with Coconino County Health and Human Services to provide a COVID Aware Enhanced Food Handler’s Certification. The curriculum … [Read more...] about NAU Supporting Businesses, Communities During COVID-19
NAU’s Top Priority: Reopening Safely
With the start of fall semester fast approaching, I am reminded every day of the importance of remaining committed to our mission and our role in the lives of our students, communities and local economies. I am sure I am not alone in having missed our students, our in-person traditions and celebrations, the rhythm of campus life, and the businesses in Northern Arizona that count on the patronage and the support of students, faculty and staff. Opening our campuses is a priority for us. It’s … [Read more...] about NAU’s Top Priority: Reopening Safely
Welcoming Maher to NAU
Northern Arizona University recently welcomed Joshua Maher as the new associate vice president for community relations. An experienced public servant with a strong background in higher education and municipal government, Maher is a great resource for Northern Arizona University and communities across all NAU campuses. Maher joined NAU from the California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, where he was assistant director of government and external affairs. In a former position, he worked … [Read more...] about Welcoming Maher to NAU
Working Together for Common Goals
As we start a new academic year, I can’t help but reflect on the last few months. We are emerging from a historic summer in Northern Arizona, which includes celebrating the contributions of hundreds of thousands of innovative and creative people who helped send Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the Moon. Though it took place 50 years ago and a quarter million miles away from Earth, the Moon landing is woven into the history of Northern Arizona and NAU. Astronauts trained at Meteor and Sunset … [Read more...] about Working Together for Common Goals
NAU’s Top Research Rankings Benefiting Flagstaff and Region
I’m so proud to share that for the first time, Northern Arizona University is recognized as one of the top 100 research universities without a medical school by the National Science Foundation. NAU also moved to 201 for all universities in the United States, up from 213 in 2017. Flagstaff and Northern Arizona, as well as our undergraduate and graduate students, are experiencing the benefits of NAU’s advanced national ranking as a top research university as measured by the National Science … [Read more...] about NAU’s Top Research Rankings Benefiting Flagstaff and Region
NAU: An Investment That Pays the Best Interest
Benjamin Franklin once said, “An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.” The success of NAU’s alumni proves this to be true. Their accomplishments are a living, enduring testament to the benefit of an investment in the NAU experience. Robin Braun credits her time at NAU with the skills that led her to serve as a pilot for the Navy SEALs, as a rear admiral in the U.S. Navy and in leadership roles at Naval Operations in Washington, D.C. Martin Casado believes his years … [Read more...] about NAU: An Investment That Pays the Best Interest

Having celebrated the end of 2018 and the achievements of more than 2,800 fall Lumberjack graduates, Northern Arizona University is looking to make 2019 another exceptional year. Running on Success
In 2016, when the Northern Arizona University men’s cross-country team won its first national title, it might have been hard for running enthusiasts outside of Flagstaff to find us on a map. But last month, after three years of dominating cross-country performances, opponents, media and fans know exactly where NAU and Flagstaff are. I had the good fortune to be at the NCAA National Championships in Madison, Wisconsin, for NAU’s first and third championships. Let me tell you, watching the … [Read more...] about Running on Success
Fall Campus Forum: NAU Thriving in A Changing World
Last month, Northern Arizona University’s faculty and staff from around the state gathered online and on our Flagstaff campus for the 2018 Fall Campus Forum. I enjoy the many ways I get to interact with our Lumberjack family throughout the year, but our Campus Forum is especially valuable. It is a great way to hit “pause” on our busy lives and take time to focus on the impact we have on our students, our state and our world. It is a time to celebrate what we have accomplished and remember what … [Read more...] about Fall Campus Forum: NAU Thriving in A Changing World
