Even though winter only recently decided to make an appearance, it is always important to remember that in our area, fire season is still just around the corner as we approach late spring and early summer. While it is the ultimate goal of the Prescott Fire Department and other agency partners to continually focus on preparedness, it’s still imperative that we do not let our guard down. In fact, Prescott Fire Chief Dennis Light points out that, historically, some of the biggest campaign fires … [Read more...] about Staying Firewise to Reduce Wildfire Risks in Our Community

Honoring Prescott’s Patriotic and Holiday Spirit
As the difficult year of 2020 comes to an end, we look forward to welcoming the joy of the holiday season. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic impact, our community has been strong – knowing we would weather the tough times. As we watch the leaves change, there is the feeling of better times ahead. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so many of our traditional events were either canceled or modified. Today, I am thrilled to announce the annual Veterans Day Parade will … [Read more...] about Honoring Prescott’s Patriotic and Holiday Spirit
Remembering the Shot Heard ‘Round the World
Today, I want to relate a story that was recently told to me by a physician friend. In times like these, it is fascinating how something that seemed so long ago in our past can be so intrinsically tied to the things we are experiencing currently. The story is from the 1950s, when fear from a dreaded contagious disease filled the national consciousness. That disease was poliomyelitis, commonly known as polio. In 1952, almost 60,000 children contracted the disease and thousands were paralyzed. … [Read more...] about Remembering the Shot Heard ‘Round the World
Working for Success in New Ways
If the first six months of 2020 have taught us anything, it is that ingenuity is even more important to running a business than ever before, and that the support of community can get us through just about anything. While the COVID-19 pandemic has been trying and has put everyone to the test, it makes me proud to call Prescott home when I see the new ways of doing business that so many of our local “mom and pops” have created. Downtown Prescott has always had a bustle and inviting historic … [Read more...] about Working for Success in New Ways
July Fourth Means Something More This Year
In light of recent events surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and the movements and protests taking place all over the world, the usual sentiments of the July 4 holiday mean something a little more. As we take time to reflect and celebrate the freedoms we are all so fortunate to have and gather with family to take part in barbecues, special events and firework spectaculars, we are even more aware of how special they are. Now, more than ever, it is clear how grateful we must all be for our freedom, … [Read more...] about July Fourth Means Something More This Year
Re-Opening the Community
As we approach the start of the gorgeous summer season here in Prescott, it continues to impress me watching our citizens and local businesses navigate through the uncertain times of the COVID-19 pandemic. There have been many frustrating days, but overall, we are seeing days with promise and hope. Governor Ducey continues to phase the re-opening of Arizona’s economy, and Prescott is following suit. So many restaurants and small businesses have taken the negative aspects of their circumstances … [Read more...] about Re-Opening the Community

Preparing for Fire Season
Despite ongoing cold temperatures, it is always important to remember in our area that fire season is right around the corner as we approach late spring and early summer. While we are always thinking ahead and working hard to be prepared, it in no way means we can let our guard down. In fact, Prescott Fire Chief Dennis Light points out that, historically, some of the biggest campaign fires that have occurred in Arizona immediately followed a wet season. We are fortunate to have a number of … [Read more...] about Preparing for Fire Season
Managing Development, Maintaining Values
As we celebrated the groundbreaking on the new passenger terminal at Prescott Regional Airport (PRC) in early January, there was much discussion about the growth and development in our community. Celebrating nearly a year and a half of service with United Express and more than 73,000 total passengers as well as the support of the Federal Aviation Administration with more than $10 million in grant funding, it is clear that Prescott is a desirable place to be and travel from. So much of this … [Read more...] about Managing Development, Maintaining Values
