Living outside the United States is the norm for 400,000 American retirees who have chosen – often for financial advantages – to make their home in countries such as Canada, Japan, Mexico, Germany and the United Kingdom. While that list of global locales is not all-inclusive, the Social Security Administration identifies them as favored among retirees choosing to reside beyond the nation’s borders. However, retirees are not the only Americans making their homes abroad. About 6.32 million … [Read more...] about From Mountains to Oceans

Astronaut Views Space Exploration as an Obligation
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University graduate and retired astronaut Nicole Stott says space explorations have helped improve life on Earth. “In terms of just human health alone, we’ve learned a great deal more about osteoporosis and bone loss, visual and optical issues, radiation effects, diet, muscle tone and the need for exercise. Of course, books are being written about the environmental, geophysical, meteorological and technological knowledge we have learned through space … [Read more...] about Astronaut Views Space Exploration as an Obligation
Little, Bright Space Rock Gives Astronomers Practice
Details about one of the smallest and brightest asteroids ever found are now being released, but perhaps the most significant discovery is how fast astronomers could get “on sky” with telescopes to observe a near-Earth asteroid and assess its impact risk. 2015 TC25, as it is known, hurled past our planet last fall. It was discovered in the night sky by a telescope near Tucson through a project called the Catalina Sky Survey. Within 24 hours, telescopes in New Mexico, Arizona and Hawaii were … [Read more...] about Little, Bright Space Rock Gives Astronomers Practice
Providing Shelter For Homeless
Homeless men and women in the Quad Cities area have another place to go for nighttime shelter, thanks to the Prescott-based Coalition for Compassion and Justice (CCJ). Technology integrates everyday life, transforming the way people learn, adapt, create solutions and work together. As education continues to prepare children to achieve the American dream, digital innovations inspire problem solving through iterative and collaborative learning. Today’s students represent “a generation of kids who don’t know that the world existed before Google, laptops, smart phones and tablets; when the world did not have WiFi,” said Jaime Casap of Google for Education, who … [Read more...] about Defining a Cultural Shift in Education

Arizona’s Christmas City Glistening for the Holidays
Prescott, known as “Arizona’s Christmas City” for the past 27 years, is decorated for what local planners say will be the best holiday season yet. “Our judgment is that this year will likely be a record breaker for visitors who enjoy what has become a premier holiday event in Arizona. We can’t even begin to estimate the positive economic impact of having locals and visitors involved in several days of holiday activities. It will be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars,” said Kendall … [Read more...] about Arizona’s Christmas City Glistening for the Holidays
Dancing off the Fog
Turns out the Macarena and Cupid Shuffle may be good for our health. Research is showing that dance may possess the anti-dementia superpower of improving memory while toning muscles. Of 11 different types of physical activity evaluated by researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2003, only dance lowered participants’ risk of dementia. The study, conducted for more than 21 years among senior men and women, concluded that the … [Read more...] about Dancing off the Fog
