Many decades ago, before I was a doctor, I worked the night shift as a nurse at the hospital, and I often remember a janitor by the name of Carl. Carl was a tall, slender, rough-looking man with the gentlest soul I have ever known. I remember him telling me about his life, about how his father passed away when he was 12 years old, and how Carl had to leave school to go to work to help support his mother and six brothers and sisters. He regretted that he was never able to go back to school to … [Read more...] about Healing Through Words, Touch, Action

Life Coaching Can Open Doors
Welcome to “At Home with Tom and Sandy.” This month, Tom and I thought we would take a pause and take a lunch-break as they say, or for those of us who breakfunch, something which I do all day – eating small meals between breakfast and lunch and do not take a lunch break, we are going to veer away from our normal column. Settle in; this is going to be wonderful! Sandy: Hi, Tom! Wow, a little more than 100 days until Christmas! For our detour topic this month, I have invited Deborah Peterson … [Read more...] about Life Coaching Can Open Doors

Is the Postcard Size Tax Return a Reality?
The amusing proposal of a tax return fitting on the size of a postcard caused me to revisit this idea because the IRS just released preliminary designs of the new form 1040 and the new schedules that go with it. The new, shorter form 1040 will essentially replace the previous forms 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ for the next tax season. The new 1040 will utilize what they call a “building block” approach, which reduces the information that goes directly on the 1040 form itself by requiring the … [Read more...] about Is the Postcard Size Tax Return a Reality?
